No true reform is possible that leaves government intact. Appeals to a government for a redress of grievances, even when acted upon, only increase the supposed legitimacy of the government's acts, and add to its amassed power. -- Fred Woodworth

Cynthia - going, going, gone!

Posted by John Berthoud - August 09, 2006

It’s hard to know what to make of U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney’s performance after she got clobbered in her primary of August 8.

Among other things, she accused the media of hurting her mother, sang a song to her supporters, and talked darkly about stolen elections (if she was referring to her loss, the other side must have been quite good at stealing votes since she lost 59 percent to 41 percent). You can watch the singing (Mary J. Blige she’s not) and ramblings about electronic voting machines here.

Maybe Ms. McKinney is actually brighter than everyone gives her credit for. While most thought the incident where she slugged a Capitol Hill cop (an activity that might land the rest of us mere mortals in jail) was a closed matter, perhaps she expects an indictment and is laying the groundwork for an insanity plea. If so, she’s got my vote.
