Today, in cooperation with Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Larry Craig (R-ID) and 14 other groups from left to right, the National Taxpayers Union helped launch the Cleanse the Code statement for fundamental tax reform.
The statement sets out some basic principles that all the groups, from the very liberal to the very conservative, agreed should guide tax reform in the 110th Congress. They are:
1. Simplification, transparency, and certainty
2. Opportunity for all Americans to get ahead
3. Fiscal responsibility
Though we all have different views on what an ideal tax code might look like, both Senators and all the groups agree that our current tax code is an unsustainable abomination. In the hopes of igniting a debate on tax reform, we put aside some of our differences and joined forces to advance the issue.
Check the statement out, and keep your eyes peeled for tax reform efforts in the 110th Congress.
