Read My Lips: More New Taxes

Posted by Dominic Rupprecht - May 31, 2007

Senator Barack Obama (D) unveiled his health care plan in New Hampshire on Tuesday. The plan calls for up to $65 million in tax increases on "the rich." Of course, tax hikes on the rich, don’t just hurt Bill Gates. According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses, approximately 85 percent of small businesses file their taxes as individuals. Significantly, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao notes that firms with fewer than 500 employees account for more than half of all private sector jobs, and according to the Small Business Administration, these firms were responsible for 88 percent of the net new jobs in the U.S. between 1990 and 2003 (Larry Kudlow did the math for us). Not exactly the people I would want to be taxing.

And, if the tax hikes weren’t reason enough to hate this plan, Michael Tanner over at Cato offers a few more.
