People Got a Lotta Nerve

Posted by Demian Brady - March 04, 2009

Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Timmy "Turbo Tax" Geithner had the nerve to testify before Rep. Charlie "Sunny Isles Beach" Rangel that the Administration will be focused on closing the "tax gap" - the gap between the amount of taxes the IRS estimates it should be owed and how much people actually pay -- by "tackling tax shelters and other efforts to abuse our tax laws, including international tax evasion efforts."

Meanwhile, yet another Obama nominee has been identified as a tax scofflaw. From the Examiner:
Former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk, nominated as Obama’s U.S. trade representative, is just the latest tax scofflaw on the list. Kirk has promised to pay about $10,000 in back taxes he owes for donating speaking fees to his alma mater, Austin College, deducting season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks, and taking twice the fair market value of a TV he donated to charity.
The Marx Brothers couldn't have written satire like this.
