Obama Benefited from School Choice; Why Can't They?

Posted by Andrew Moylan - March 05, 2009

That's the message in this terrific video from the Heritage Foundation:

President Obama was not only a beneficiary of school choice himself, he has exercised it as a parent. The difference between Obama and the parents of the children in this video, however, is that these kids' parents don't have tens of thousands of dollars to pay for the most expensive private schools in the country. The DC Opportunity Scholarship provides them a measure of choice that their financial situation likely couldn't allow. And now the Democrats want to kill that.

This is yet another one of those situations where I wonder, "And I'M the jerk?!?!" I'm the "jerk" that wants to force people out into the streets and make seniors eat dog food because I believe in fiscal responsibility, yet the Democrats and others who oppose school choice get a free pass for shafting inner-city students by anchoring them to failing public schools.

Andrew,
I would also add that many private schools succeed in providing a good education for 50% to 75% of the cost of a public school. Yet, we are the ones who support school choice and we are the bad people.
