California Voters Either Apathetic or Angry

Posted by Joshua Culling - May 19, 2009

Californians go to the polls today to vote on a package of budget measures consisting of a variety of tax hikes and debt increases. Proposition 1A is the most serious measure, as it would impose a $16 billion tax hike on Californians, masked by a weak spending limit.

It's just before 2:00 out West, and according to the LA Times, voter turnout has so far been sporadic. Those who have shown up, however, are angry at their government:
In Orange County, turnout was similarly scant at a polling place at Newport Beach City Hall. By 10 a.m., just 18 of 840 registered voters had showed up. But those who did cast votes spoke with defiance and anger about what they viewed as out-of-control spending by state government and an ineffective governor.

"Our Legislature just flat out spends too much money, and it's about time they quit," said Doug White, 71, a retired trucking company owner who came to cast his vote with his wife, Judy. "They spend money faster than we can give it to them."
NTU has come out against these ballot measures, and our friends at Americans for Tax Reform have put out a ballot guide for Golden State voters. It's time to tell the tax-and-spenders in Sacramento that enough is enough.

Actually, both as you can see by the numbers not voting. I am not in Cali but they need to get their heads out of the sand, stand up for what is right and stop all this greening of Cali because that is one of their main problems. They are spending way to much on a lost cause and the people of Cali are suffering. If they want change they better get out there and start voting.
