Federal debt: $8 trillion and counting

Posted by Kristina Rasmussen - October 25, 2005

Black Tuesday has a new meaning: on October 18, 2005 (a Tuesday) the federal debt amounted to over $8 trillion for the first time in U.S. history.

As of October 21, 2005 the total federal debt equals $8,009,131,433,464.30.

It is a shame that Congress can't even muster $50 billion in spending cuts.

I think it is amazing that President Bush stated that the damage from huricane Katrina would not cause an increase in taxes but would be paid for by cutting back on "unnesessary" spending. Duh!! Why is there ANY unnesessary spending in the first place and isn't it our tax money that is being spent unnesessarily? Here's your sign!
