The New Deal had a purpose beyond curing the Depression. It was to make people look to Washington for help at all times.--Amity Shlaes

No AMT Fix for Christmas This Year

Posted by Demian Brady - December 13, 2005

Senator Frist told reporters that Congress won't be able wrap up legislation this year that would reform the dreaded Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).

The Associated Press reports:
Lawmakers can act next year to make retroactive changes that ensure taxpayers don't pay more in 2006, but millions will start the year in its grasp.
The President's Tax Reform Commission said the AMT should be abolished. Congress should stop being scrooges and bury this tax with the ghosts of Christmas past.
